Why domesticated men can never be sexy

It is nice that there is a problem which isn’t our fault. On the road to gender equality, most obstacles are blamed on men: at worst we are actively trying to hold women back; at best we are just grudgingly lifting our feet to allow the vacuum cleaner of change to get past.

But now the author of one of the most-celebrated pieces of damn-that-glass-ceiling journalism has said that women are bringing all these problems on themselves. Well maybe not all, but certainly some of them.

In 2012, Anne-Marie Slaughter wrote an article for The Atlantic magazine headlined Why Women Can’t Have It All. It tackled the everyday problems a mother faces when she takes a sabbatical from her academic post at Princeton to assume a high-level government job in Hillary Clinton’s State Department (spoiler alert: she struggled to spend much time chillin’ with the kids).

"We need to be honest and admit to ourselves that lots of people still think it is better if, overall, women spend more time with children than men" Richard Holt
