The Athletic has live coverage of Lions vs. Broncos

Which Denver Broncos team will show up for their AFC West road contest against the Los Angeles Chargers? The one that lost against the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders and New York Jets early in the season? Or the one that impressively won five straight games before falling against the Houston Texans in Week 13? The Chargers are slight favorites at home.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The game will be broadcast on CBS.

The Broncos (6-6) sit outside the AFC playoff picture, but they are close to catching Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Houston for a postseason spot. Still, Denver’s rushing game has been nearly non-existent this season – Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlan have combined for just 880 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Letting Russell Wilson cook was a reliable recipe for success during the Broncos’ winning streak. The veteran quarterback tossed eight TDs and zero interceptions during the streak. The Chargers’ shaky defense, which has allowed 24.5 points per game at home this season, could keep the Broncos’ feast going.

The Chargers (5-7) snapped a three-game losing streak in Week 13, albeit in an ugly 6-0 win over the lowly Patriots. Running back Austin Ekeler continues to struggle this season, averaging only 3.5 yards per carry after he suffered an ankle injury in Week 1.

Still, quarterback Justin Herbert is the centerpiece of the Chargers’ offense. His sparkling 3.3-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio is one of the best in the NFL. Keenan Allen’s 1,175 receiving yards cement him as Herbert’s top target.

The Chargers’ slim playoff hopes could rest on the shoulders of the Khalil Mack- and Joey Bosa-led defense stifling the Broncos’ offense and giving Herbert and the offense as many possessions as possible to find the end zone.
