This Artist 101 guide contains everything you need to know about Croatia’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Roko.

Who is Roko?

Roko Blaževic is a 19-year-old Croatian singer who won the Croatian national selection show for Eurovision Dora, and will represent his country at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel with his song “The Dream”.

Born in Split, Roko started his music career at an early age, which may be obvious as his mother Marija Saratlija-Blaževic and his father Tonci Blaževic are also singers. Over the years, he has participated in many national and international music shows and already became a recognised singer in the Slavic countries. In 2017, he won Pinkove Zvezdice, a Serbian singing show, and came second in Croatia’s Zvijezde the next year, where he met former Eurovision star, Jacques Houdek. Jacques was a judge on the series, and they’ve developed such a close bond that Roko can now call him his mentor.

Besides singing, Roko has been playing the piano since he was 7 years old.

When is his birthday?

Roko’s birthday is on March 10, 2000.

What is his most popular song?

To date, his competing entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest “The Dream”, a bilingual, powerful ballad, is Roko’s most popular number.

“The Dream” was written by Croatia’s representative for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest Jacques Houdek, the writer of the 2014 winning song “Rise Like A Phoenix” Charlie Mason and Andrea Cubric.
